- May, 2006.
Congratulations to Wesley Jennings for winning our first annual Graduate Student Research Paper Competition. The title of his paper was Regional Variations in Punitiveness for White-Collar Offenders: A Re-analysis of the Crisis in the Savings and Loan Industry.
- January 11, 2006.
The first brown bag of the new year will be presented by Dr. Jennifer Groscup, J.D., Ph.D, of the John Jay School of Criminal Justice. Her presentation, entitled "Legal Decision Making", will be held from 1:55-2:45 in the Walker Hall Conference Room (201-E).
- September 21, 2005.
Please join us in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society for the first session of our brown bag series. Karen F. Parker and Amy R. Stauffer will present "Elijah Anderson's Code of the Street -- What are the implications of this ethnographic work for the macro-level study of urban crime?". It will be held Wednesday, Sept 21st from 12:50-1:40pm in the Walker Hall Conference Room (201-E).
The brown bag series provide faculty and graduate students an opportunity to talk about current research projects or interests is an informal setting. While one topic will be scheduled each month, the remaining time is open to other topics. As the name "brown bag" implies, please feel free to bring your lunch. Graduate students are especially encouraged to attend. If you are interested in scheduling a topic, send an email to Dr. Karen Parker.

We are very pleased to welcome our newest faculty member, Lora Levett. Dr. Levett's interests include Juror and Jury Decision Making, Eyewitness Testimony, and Juveniles and the Justice System. This semester she will be teaching Law and Society (CCJ 3038) and Psychology and Law (CCJ 4037)
- Spring, 2005.
Our department was ranked 11th in the nation by the US News and World Report ranking of doctoral programs in criminology and criminal justice. Congratulations to our faculty, staff, and students.
- November 30, 2004.
Dr. Derek Chadee will present a paper entitled "Fear of Crime in Trinidad" from 9-10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 30th in Dauer Hall Room 219. Dr. Chadee is currently a Fullbright scholar at the University of Central Florida while he is on sabbatical from the University of the West Indies.
- July 9, 2004. It's official. We have become a department! After many successful years as a research center, we are now the Department of Criminology, Law and Society. Previously our interim Director, Dr. Lonn Lanza-Kaduce has been appointed as the first chair of the new department.
- February, 2004. Alex Piquero has been awarded one of 12 college-level teaching and advising awards for 2003-04. The awards recognize excellence, innovation and effectiveness in either teaching or advising. Nominations were collected from students, faculty, department chairs and administrators.
- December 3, 2003. Today the Florida Board of Governors unanimously approved our Ph.D. in Criminology. Congratulations to Lonn Lanza-Kaduce and everyone else who worked so hard to make this happen. We look forward to accepting our first cohort of Ph.D. students in the near future.
- November 18, 2003. The American Society of Criminology held its 2003 Annual Meeting November 18-23 in Denver, CO. The meeting was well-attended by faculty and students of the Department of Criminology, Law and Society. Eight of our faculty members and 15 of our graduate students participated.
