CLASnet Information

The following is a simplified tutorial about CLAS computing to get new users up and running and to assist current users with answers to common questions. To find more extensive information, refer to the CLASnet webpage. To resolve any CLASnet or departmental computer problems, users are required to first contact the departmental computer liasion.

Where to use your CLASnet log in

CLASnet encompasses departmental computers of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences that do not provide their own networking, thus including all the computers and computer labs in Walker Hall. Public access computers in the University libraries or in any University computer labs utilize gatorlink accounts. Refer to the gatorlink webpage for more information or contact the computer help desk at 392-HELP.

CLASnet disk drives

A:/ - 3.5 Floppy Drive
C:/ - Local Hard Disk Drive (at that particular computer)
H:/ - Personal Hard Disk Drive
Located on CLASnet servers. These are backed up regularly, thus data is more secure on this drive rather than local disk drives.
I:/ - Personal Hard Disk Drive utilized for web space.
Located on CLASnet servers and are backed up regularly.
S:/ - Departmental Shared Hard Disk Drive.
Can be accessed by anyone within the department. Also located on CLASnet servers and are backed up regularly. Useful for sharing files with others in the department.

CLASnet passwords

You may change your CLASnet password at any time. To do so, click "Start" and select "Run" after you have logged in. Type in "setpass", click "Okay", and follow the instructions. If you forgot your password, the departmental contact will need to reset it for you.

Internet space

By placing files and directories on their I:/ drive, users can create a website located at http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/CLASnet Username. Web space is limited, but should be plenty for any single user.

How to forward CLASnet e-mail

Go to http://www.clas.ufl.edu/clasnet/accounts/forward.shtml. Fill out the web form to begin or cancel e-mail forwarding.

How to receive CLASnet e-mail at home

See the departmental email help page.
